Today marks three years since the talented and sweet Hana Kimura passed away at the very young age of 22. She was a young wrestler who was full of charisma, amazing inside the squared circle and already carving out a fantastic career for herself in Japan’s top women’s [Joshi] promotion, STARDOM. On 23rd May 2020, in the midst of the pandemic, Hana Kimura took her own life after a barrage of hate was directed at her online, including name-calling and racist abuse, from viewers of the reality show Terrace House.
Kimura was described as a sweet and kind individual who loved her friends, family and pro wrestling. She was always there to lend a helping hand, put a smile on your face and be the hardest worker. Her legacy will live on beyond her presence on this earth, as we see the women she trained with build their own futures. Her friend Io Shirai said:
I will always remember her smile that would brighten up any room she walked into. It is so important that we all love and treat each other with respect.
This is our second year at Lace ‘Em Up celebrating the life and career of Hana Kimura, and my third Hana Kimura Week I have organized. We hope you will stay with us and enjoy the work we have produced in honour of The Dangerous Flower: Hana Kimura.
Below I have collected together some of the best tweets and tributes from her fans and we will be sharing even more on our Social Media platforms. Today, and this week is about Hana, her career and the legacy she has left behind. She wouldn’t want us to think of her and be sad, but to remember how she made us happy. 3 Years Bloomed.

3 years already and I still find difficult to put some words together. There’s no day I don’t think about you, about how you shined, and knowing that shine will never fade because there’s a bit of it in all of us. I miss you, and I hope you’re proud of us #3YearsBloomed

3 years have passed since Hana Kimura left this earth. So much has happened in that time period. Friends of hers have reached the pinnacle of this industry, paying homage to Hana along the way. She even inspired the greatest American women’s wrestler of all time to chase her dreams. I’m not sure if time truly helps us process and heal from tragedy or if we’re simply tasked with persevering through the pain and finding solace where we can. I personally find comfort in knowing that as women’s wrestling continues to achieve new heights Hana’s legacy shall continue alongside it. Hana Kimura seeked to inspire and bring people together through the art of pro wrestling. A mission she continues to succeed into this day. #RIPHanaKimura#FlowersForHana#3YearsBloomed
