The EFL Championship is providing another great match, in the form of West Bromwich Albion vs Watford FC. A match that had everything from wonder goals to great goalkeeping ability, let’s break this game down in our match review.
The First Half Was Fast And Strong For Both Teams
The first half was a half that the baggies dominated but couldn’t find a way through a stubborn Watford defense, this wasn’t helped when Ismailia Sarr scored one of the goals of the season lobbing the West Brom goalkeeper from his own half. West Brom would find an equalizer after a beautiful finish from Karl Grant helped them level the game going into halftime. This half really showed how amazing the EFL Championship can be.
Watford And West Brom Fight Hard In The Second Half
Watford was a lot better in the second half than they were in the first half, showing more intensity, as fast attackers like Sarr and Dennis exploited every loophole they could find in the West Brom defense. Halfway through the second half Ismailia Sarr got fouled in the box to gain Watford a penalty and a well-deserved one with how the second half had started.
Even though he could score from 50 yards Sarr could not score from 10 as his penalty was far too weak and was saved by the West Brom goalie. The rest of the second half was all West Brom as Watford defended for their lives trying not to concede a late goal. Neither team could find a winner and a very entertaining match finished 1-1.
Lace ‘Em Up’s Man Of The Match
So there were a couple of people who could’ve gotten man of the match for this game of footy, a lot of amazing performances but here at Lace Em Up we’re gonna give the award to Jed Wallace. Fast, strong, physical which is everything you want in a modern day winger, creating many chances and definitely one of the main reasons the baggies got the point from this match.

Will Both Teams Be Happy?
WBA also known as West Brom will be fairly annoyed they didn’t take all three points, they were the better team the whole 90 minutes and had the better of the chances throughout the game. Watford will be very happy as even though they didn’t play well at all far from it there still coming out of this game not completely empty handed. That’s something they can be very happy with cause on another day the baggies might have ran away with this game but as it stands both teams still have 100% starts to this years championship season.
Key Moments Of The ELF Championship Game

So let’s talk through some of the key moments that made this match what it was. One of the key moments early on was a beautiful piece of goalkeeping from Daniel Bachman making an amazing double save from Karl Grant to keep it level. Then out of nowhere one of the best goals I have ever watched happened in front of my eyes when Ismailia Sarr picked the ball up in his own half and thought why not and lobbed the West Brom goalkeeper in a spectacular goal.
West Brom, we’re not to be held back though and Karl Grant made sure they went into halftime on equal terms with a beautiful volley into the bottom right corner. The big talking point from the second half was Ismailia Sarr missing the penalty early on which would come to be Watford’s last good chance of the game leaving the hawthorns with a point.
So in conclusion this was a match of two halves that one team maybe will feel like they should’ve gotten more and another happy with a point. While it’s early on in the season come may this game could be looked back on as one of the games that shaped the championship season and really indicated how these two teams seasons were gonna end up.
