Since WrestleMania’s inception in 1985, wrestling was changed forever by the mainstream success of an event of this magnitude. The success has transformed professional wrestling but also facilitated the rise of stardom to many of the WWE superstars both past and present. Many celebrities have also joined in on this such as Mr. T, Mike Tyson, Cyndi Lauper, Ronda Rousey, and Bad Bunny.
WrestleMania is one of the big 5 of WWE’s biggest annual events. The other four are The Royal Rumble, SummerSlam, Survivor Series, and Money in the Bank.
With that being said, just as much of women’s wrestling, many of the WrestleMania
# 3. Molly Holly VS. Victoria | WrestleMania 20
This was a favourite match of mine. Two women who were amazing wrestlers and in ways ahead of their time. Both Molly and Victoria had a feud and Molly wanted to get back the WWE Women’s Championship. There were only 2 matches on the card, one of them being a Playboy evening gown match. Molly would lose the match, failing to regain the title and had to lose her hair. While they didn’t get too much time, this match stood out to me as one of my favourites.
“I was a champion, and the writers told me that there was only room for one women’s match at WrestleMania. They were going to do a pillow fight or a mud match. I was really devastated and thought I gotta come up with something that makes them change their minds.
So I put a bald cap on and had my photo taken. I made a booklet with a bunch of different storylines showing my head getting shaved. I presented it to Stephanie McMahon and some of the writers and said: ‘I’m willing to shave my head, can I please be on WrestleMania?’ Sure enough, they came back to me couple days later and said ‘All right, we’ll let you get your head shaved at WrestleMania.’”.”

#2. Jazz vs Trish Stratus vs Victoria | WrestleMania 19
During this era, Trish was making waves, but so were Jazz and Victoria. Jazz was dominant since her first WWE appearance and Victoria had shown that she was a heel that was like a thorn in your side, especially when Steven Richards was helping her during that time.
This 7-minute match showcased how the women’s division was slowly changing for the better as of course WWE slid backwards over the years. Trish after a hard-fought match was able to retain her title in this.
This one stands out to me because it had 2 of my favourites and also showcased Trish’s growth since her debut at WWE. This was an underrated match.
# 1. Sasha Banks VS. Bianca Belair | WrestleMania 37, Night 1.
This match for me spoke to me on a more personal level as I’ve been a fan for a long time. When thinking about the representation of seeing women who look like me in big matches and make history. Sasha Banks now going, as Mercedes Moné has been part of many amazing matches in both NXT and the main roster. She was part of some of the best main events in NXT Takeovers.
Bianca came into the wrestling scene being her authentic and athletic self. She has shown why she is the EST and showed many women and little girls that you can be yourself and still thrive.
These ladies’ main everything night one of WrestleMania 37, was everything to me as a fan and as a Black woman. The match was entertaining and well done. But most importantly, it made history. They also won an Espy for this match,
