One year after the higher ups in IMPACT (now TNA) decided to make the Plus Specials worth watching, the company went into it’s 20 year of existence riding high.
While the amount of Plus Specials were smaller compared 2021, the quality of these events more than made up for it; Some were forgettable and others were memorable, but which ones deserve this distinction?
Here is my list of every TNA 2022 Plus Special ranked from Worst to Best.
#7. Overdrive

Coming not long after the company’s Bound For Glory pay-per-view, Overdrive was pretty much an afterthought even before the show aired as many of the matches were predictable in terms of their outcome or weren’t all that interesting to begin with.
The show kicked off with two former world champions in Bully Ray and Moose fighting in a tables match with the former Dudley Boy unsurprisingly coming out on top. Jessicka Havok and Taya Valkyrie retain their Knockouts Tag Team Titles over Tasha Steelz and Savannah Evans as did Heath and Rhino with their World Tag Title match over the team of Brian Myers and Matt Cardona.
Mickie James had a servable match against Taylor Wilde to keep her ‘Last Rodeo’ storyline and her career in tact, Jordynne Grace retained the Knockouts Championship over Masha Slamovich in a good rematch from their BFG encounter, and the main event saw Josh Alexander retain his IMPACT World Title against Frankie Kazarian in a near 33 minute match which could’ve ended five or ten minutes earlier…I mean seriously did anyone really think that Kazarian was going to win the title here.
The biggest highlights of the event saw Bully Ray and Trey Miguel (who won his second X Division title in a great match with Black Taurus) turn heel and went on to do much better work in the months that followed; A lackluster show overall and easy to forget, so let’s move on.
#6. No Surrender

No Surrender was the first TNA Plus Special of 2022 and therefore had the honor of setting tone for all the Plus Specials that would proceed it and what a tone this show set, in terms of furthering storylines with some great action.
The show officially kicked off with Jake Something winning a very fast paced fatal four way to become the number one contender for Trey Miguel’s X Division Championship, Jonah (aka Bronson Reed) defeated Black Taurus in a surprising good big man vs. big man fight and the leaders of the Bullet Club and Violent By Design met face-to-face in the ring with Jay White sneaking away with a victory over Eric Young.
Of the five title matches that occurred on this show some were great like Deonna Purrazzo retaining the ROH Women’s Title against Miranda Alize, some were good like Moose defeating W. Morrissey to keep the Impact World Title, others involving Knockouts Champion, Mickie James and Digital Media Champion, Matt Cardona saw finishes that were meant to continue their respective storylines but came off feeling a bit off.
Speaking of things being a little bit off, at least by the second or third way of the show there were some lighting and audio issues that were visible to many but they were thankfully resolved.
By far the two biggest talking points regarding this show involves the tag team matches when Jay White shocked the wrestling world when he attacked the Guerillas of Destiny during their match against the Good Brothers for the IMPACT Tag Team Titles thereby kicking them out of the club and the main event which saw Eddie Edwards turn heel and aligning himself with Honor No More who now had access to appear on Impact whenever they liked as per the stipulation of the match.
Despite the problems, No Surrender was an good show that established what the TNA Plus Specials in 2022 we be like going forward.
#5. Against All Odds

Like many of the Plus Specials, some of the matches were booked with little to no backstory while others had been booked after months of storytelling both on TV and on PPV and perhaps the best example of that is the 2022 edition of Against All Odds.
The show officially got underway with Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley of the Motor City Machines Guns defeating Bullet Club members: Chris Bey and Ace Austin in solid opening bout followed by another tag team contest which saw the team of Chelsea Green and Deonna Purrazzo defeat Mia Yim and Mickie James.
‘Speedball’ Mike Bailey retained his X Division Championship in a grueling, back-and-forth match against former champion, Trey Miguel with most fans and critics seeing this as one of the company’s best matches of 2022…which is really saying something.
Rosemary and Taya Valkyrie were able to retain their Knockouts Tag Team Titles against The Influence (aka Tenille Dashwood and Madison Rayne), Honor No More lost a 10 man tag team match to the team of the Good Brothers, Heath, James Storm and ‘Wildcat’ Chris Harris and Moose was able to avenge his loss to Sami Callihan at Slammiversary by defeating ‘The Draw’ in a Clockwork Orange House of Fun thanks to interfence of Steve Maclin diguised as a cameraman.
Jordynne Grace retained her Knockouts Championship against the former champion Tasha Steelz with many wondering if ‘The Boricua Badass’ was fine after taking a nasty looking Grace Driver in the final moments of the match. The main event saw Josh Alexander becoming the first person since 2019 to pin Violent By Design’s Joe Doering while at the same time retaining his IMPACT World Championship.
Add all of this with a preshow match that saw Brian Myers becoming the new Digital Media Champion, and you’ve got surprisingly good show for an event that was quickly made mere weeks after Slammiversary.
#4. Emergence

Taking place at the Cierco Stadium in Chicago Illinois, the third annual Emergence event saw the company really begin their push towards the road to Bound For Glory and if this show is any indication then their starting off on the right foot.
The two preshow matches saw the team of Deonna Purrazzo and Chelsea Green aka VXT defeat Rosemary and Taya Valykrie to become the new Knockouts Tag Team champions while Brian Meyers retained his Digital Media Championship against Bhupinder Gujjar while also handing the latter his first pinfall loss.
Things got underway with another successful title defense as ‘Speedball’ Mike Bailey retained his X Division Championship against Jack Evans, Violent By Design’s Eric Young and Deaner were able to pull off the upset victory on the team of Chris Sabin and Kushida and former ROH World Champion, Bandido defeated Rey Horus in an adrenaline fueled classic.
Steve Maclin and Sami Callihan’s bad blood was seen through the night as both men brawled both in and outside of the ring leading to their singles bout becoming a No Disqualification match and as you can imagine it was a bloody, violent wreck of a match that saw Callihan get his revenge from Against All Odds while also being a standout match in both men’s careers.
Bad blood and violence continued on as the Bullet Club and Honor No More faced off in a five-on-five tag team street fight with Matt Taven and Mike Bennett securing a victory for the group thus giving them a shot at the tag titles and keeping the group alive…for a least few more months.
Jordynne Grace defeated Mia Yim to keep her Knockouts World Championship but the celebration was cut short thanks to the appearance of Masha Slamovich and the main event between Josh Alexander and Alex Shelley was a back-and-forth contest which saw “The Walking Weapon” successfully retain his title against one half of the Motor City Machine Guns…By all accounts, Emergence certainly started the Road to BFG on the right track.
#3.Victory Road

Continuing on with the company’s road to Bound For Glory, Victory Road decided to go even further as this show got fans and first time watchers even more excited for things to come.
Mike Bailey was put to the test against former Ring of Honor star, Delirious in the opening contest for the X Division Championship followed by a resounding victory by the Motor City Machine Guns over Honor No More’s PCO and Vincent.
Mickie James defeated Gisele Shaw, X Division legend Frankie Kazarian was able to win the first ever intergender triple threat revolver match to get a future shot at the X Division title and Honor No More’s Eddie Edwards and OGK were able to defeat the team of Josh Alexander, Heath and Rich Swann.
The best match on the card saw Jordynne Grace put on a fantastic performance against Masha Slamovich’s hand picked opponent, Max The Impaler and in the main event Moose, Steve Maclin and Sami Callihan brutalized each other in a triple threat barbed wire massacre match with Maclin picking up the victory in another career defining match.
Add in the announcement of former ECW/TNA Wrestler, Raven being the next inductee into the Hall of Fame and the two preshow matches that took place earlier and Victory Road has very few problems to mention…Well except Bobby Fish’s debut and his awkward shoot promo, but let’s not talk about that.
#2. Sacrifice

Sacrifice was already put in a tricky position by the time the show came around as the event was coming just two weeks after No Surrender, so most of the bouts were either rematches or hastily thrown together, but with that all said the show itself delivered in every way imaginable.
Trey Miguel successfully defended his X Division title against Jake Something while Eddie Edwards beat ‘The War Machine’ Rhino, Jonah defeated PCO in a surprisingly good hoss vs. hoss match and the bout between Jay White and Alex Shelley was an instant classic between student and teacher.
This show bared witness to six title matches with three of them having new champions being crowned.
First was The Influence who defeated The IInspiration (aka The IIconics in WWE) with the help of Kaleb with A K to become the new Knockouts Tag champions, Tasha Steelz defeated Mickie James in a match that was better than their bout at No Surrender and became the first Afro Latina to win the Knockouts title and the team of Eric Young and Joe Doering shocked everyone by beating the Good Brothers to become the new World Tag Team Champions.
Deonna Purrazzo retained her ROH Women’s title against Chelsea Green in a good match and the main event saw Moose beat Heath to keep his IMPACT World Title…no surprise there. What was surprising was Josh Alexander’s sneak attack on Moose before announcing that he re-signed with the company and that the main event for the Rebellion PPV will be Josh versus Moose for the Impact World Championship…A great night of filled with twists and turns capping off with an iconic return.
#1. Under Siege

If you were to tell someone that a TNA Plus Special that came out two weeks after Rebellion was going to do much than the PPV, most fans would probably think that your crazy, yet that’s exactly what happened with Under Siege.
“The Consequential Diva” Gisele Shaw who’s accompanied to the ring by Alisha Edwards picks up a major victory over Madison Rayne to start off the show followed by an impressive back and forth contest between Steve Maclin and Chris Sabin with the former X Division champion coming out on top.
Speaking of champions coming out on top, both Ace Austin and Taya Valkyrie defeated their rivals: Trey Miguel and Deonna Purrazzo respectively to keep the gold around their waists. Faction warfare was on display as the Bullet Club’s own Jay White, Chris Bey, The Good Brothers and El Phantasmo battled Honor No More’s Eddie Edwards, Kenny King, Vincent, Mike Bennett and Matt Tavern in a 10-man tag team match that went almost half an hour with the former ROH stars emerging victorious.
‘The Boricua Badass’ Tasha Steelz was able to put away Havok in a solid match for the Knockouts World Championship, Jay and Mark of The Briscoes were able to defeat Violent By Design to become the new World Tag Team Champions and in the main event, Josh Alexander successfully retained his IMPACT World Championship in a 20 plus minute classic against NJPW’s own Tomohiro Ishii.
Combine all of this with the shocking returns of Mia Yim and Sami Callihan on this night and it’s easy to see why Under Siege 2022 ranks number one on this list.
