Just Remind Me…
Of course! This is a project of 4 Tedeschi Trucks Band eps that are as long as albums which will come out in June, July, August, and September. But not just that.
Each ep will have an accompanying short movie based on the music just released which will be on YouTube for people to access and love.
As Guitarworld reminds us:
‘The albums all draw inspiration from Persian mythology and the Layla and Majnun story of 12th-century poet Nizami Ganjavi – which was in turn, a source of inspiration for Derek and the Domino’s classic album Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs.’
The first Tedeschi Trucks Band ep, ‘I Am The Moon: I. Crescent’ was a bit of a teaser and a lot of gorgeous calmness and atmosphere. The film was filmic and warm in equal measure.
There is a thought that this will all be available as one brought-together release, but the individual digipack releases are pretty gorgeous.
So this is the second ep…
Ascension
That’s what it’s called and that’s what it feels like. This music takes you up and then looks after you when you’re there, caressing, holding your hand, and telling you everything is going to be alright.
It doesn’t start with caressing, mind you. ‘Playing With My Emotions’ is one of the most playful things I’ve heard the Tedeschi Trucks Band do.
It sounds like jaunty Jazz Fusion, that riff just popping its head around the corner and flashing a smile. And those horns are so fruity, fecund, ready to drop a good night in your lap.
But the solo is an older style Soul feel, the chorus raising you gently, never jerking, but it clears out for an organ, and percussion to the solo can enfold us.
That riff is so naughty…
You’ll have a good time with ‘Ain’t That Something’, which moves from the porch, watching the world go by to rolling its hips and finding that Soul excellence again.
The Bridge
Where is that confounded bridge? The next track ‘All The Love’ develops from Tedeschi Trucks Band’s gentle airs and a meandering guitar solo to an almost Free Jazz exploration to finish.
This is the bridge to the calmer, settled loveliness later in the ep, through the 70’s singer-songwriter with lilting Laurel Canyon loveliness of ‘Rainy Day’.
Take Us Home
‘La Di Da’ will take your hand to lead you back to where you came, the simplicity of the Country feel is comforting, with some Blues in there, the horns throw their arms around you with a convivial warmth.
Then ‘Hold That Line’ does, it gives you nothing but good memories of the Tedeschi Trucks Band this night – those horns have a lot to do with it, we know we’re in good hands.
Live For Live Music encapsulates things well;
‘Opening with the Memphis swing of “Playing With My Emotions”, Ascension charts its path across the sky with a natural arc. As the sun hides away and the moon comes out, the flow of songs emanates a twilight feel from the breezy late-night blues of “Ain’t that Something” to the restlessness of “All The Love.’
2nd Chance for Tedeschi Trucks Band
This Tedeschi Trucks Band music has such a lot of fun. And then it calms to allow you to breathe, look back and hug the music you have just loved.
This isn’t just sound, it moves with you, the sequence of the songs works with you, the mix has rounded corners, and the feeling is beautiful.
As Glide Magazine tells us:
‘We hear TTB capturing in the studio what it does so well on stage, namely engaging every member of the 12-piece band in a beautifully conversational way.’
The Tedeschi Trucks Band will breathe with you.
