Tag Team Championship Match | Matt Myers & Nathan Cruz vs Dara Diablo & Jimmy McIlwee

After the intermission, we were treated to an unexpected appearance by two of the companies mainstays, tag team champions Matt Myers and Nathan Cruz. They bemoaned their lack of match on such a major show and were challenged by McIlwee and Diablo, who the fans were very much behind. A title match ensued, as one might expect. This was a very back and forth contest that broke down into a straight-up brawl. Cruz and Myers took down two referees and drew the ire of the ring announcer Richard Young, who revealed a referee shirt and counted the pinfall to give Diablo and McIlwee the win. A very fun match with a crowd-pleasing finish.

BWR Anniversary V Semi-Main Event | Kip Sabian vs Robbie X

The return of Kip Sabian to the ring for the first time since March 2021 is the biggest draw to outsiders but the chance to see him return to BWR against his long-time friend, ally, and rival, Robbie X is a big moment for loyal fans. It was March 2019 that Sabian last stepped into a BWR ring and the ovation he received was fitting for someone who gave so much to this company in its early years. Robbie X is a great opponent for him, not only because of their history but also just because he is one of the best in the country at the moment and someone who has raised the bar in recent times.

This was a hell of a match. A proper epic. They fought all over the building for just over half an hour. A real back and forth contest. The run time might have been a little excessive for some but the crowd in the room never dipped in their energy levels throughout. In the end Sabian one but Robbie X pushed him all the way. It will probably be a while before we see Sabian in the UK again but if he carries the form he showed in this match back into AEW he will be a great asset to them. To come back from so long away and have a match this strong is a credit to his skill.

BWR Anniversary V Main Event | Heavyweight Championship Match | Joseph Conners vs Ricky Knight Jr

After the epic semi-main it would take something special to end the night on anything other than an
anti-climax. But this match stepped to that high bar and achieved it. Conners has been great since
returning to the UK independent scene and Knight has established himself well so far in his young
career. Knight earned this opportunity by winning the Riot Rumble back in April after losing out on
that same show with an Anarchy Briefcase cash-in.

Conners, and his ally Riley Nova, started the match off hot, attacking Knight during his entrance and absolutely battering him all around the ring. Many fans were forced from their chairs as anarchy properly ensued. Their constant shouts of ‘go home, there isn’t going to be a title match’ was very entertaining bait to a still molten crowd. Once they reached the ring the match could properly begin. At this point it wasn’t a protracted match, Knight eventually winning to fulfil his promise and become the new Heavyweight champion. A fitting moment to end an anniversary show with all the new champions joining Knight in celebration to close the show.

All in all, this was a brilliant night of wrestling. A hot crowd that stayed that way all night really helped, along with the aforementioned high production values. The night was a little long, not getting finished till just gone 11 after starting at 7.30 but for such a big show this duration can be excused. It will be well worth a watch when it goes on-demand and BWR is definitely a company worth making the trip to North Lincolnshire to catch.

I’ve always liked British wrestling, since it has an intriguing history of it, both pro and real wrestling. (Catch wrestling, anyone?)

I’m happy to see that it is still thriving, even though some giant British company is not controlling the business.
