Gulak was always a brilliant worker in the WWE, albeit one without sufficient recognition. Everything from his “No Fly Zone” gimmick to his constant PowerPoint presentations had made Gulak a traditional heel able to get heat from doing very little. Thanks to his work with Daniel Bryan, Gulak garnered popularity in the early part of 2020, even turning face.

On the May 15th SmackDown, Gulak faced Daniel Brayn in friendly combat as the two clashed in the first round of a tournament match for the vacant Intercontinental title. Bryan won and it was revealed shortly after that Gulak had been released from the company.

In what many saw as disrespectful, a WWE Tweet referred to the recently-released ex-Cruiserweight champion as Bryan’s “training partner.”

Less than two weeks later, Gulak was said to have returned, with his profile moved back onto the SmackDown roster page. He made a low-key return in a multi-man backstage segment, where he had to feign surprise at Elias being fake hit by a car driven by a fake drunk Jeff Hardy. He then wrestled in a battle royal.

Gulak continued being a presence during the lockdown era in the aftermath and nobody has ever talked about his short-lived release since.
